What is Aquamation?

Aquamation, or water cremation, is an innovative and environmentally friendly process that uses water instead of fire to return a body to its elemental form. This natural process, also called alkaline hydrolysis, accelerates the decomposition that occurs in nature, resulting in clean, white bone ash similar to what's produced by flame-based cremation.

The Benefits of Choosing Aquamation

  1. Environmentally Friendly:
Aquamation produces no direct emissions and uses significantly less energy compared to traditional flame cremation, making it a greener choice for environmentally conscious families.
  2. Gentle Process:
The water-based method is a more natural and peaceful way to care for your loved one's remains, free from the use of fire or intense heat.
  3. More Remains Returned:
Aquamation typically results in 20-30% more ash being returned to the family compared to flame cremation, allowing for more meaningful memorialization options.
  4. No Medical Implants to Remove:
Unlike traditional cremation, aquamation doesn't require the removal of medical implants or devices prior to the process.
  5. Chemical-Free:
The process uses only water and alkaline compounds, avoiding the release of mercury and other pollutants associated with flame cremation.

The Aquamation Process: What to Expect

Your loved one is respectfully placed in a stainless-steel vessel.

A mixture of water and alkaline solution is added to the vessel.

The vessel is gently heated and the solution is circulated for several hours.

The process breaks down all organic material, leaving only bone minerals.

The remaining bone minerals are processed into a fine, white powder.

The remains are returned to you in an urn of your choosing.

Throughout this process, our compassionate staff is available to answer any questions and provide support to your family.
