Ronald Bernard Schutz, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at the age of 88 in Grand Isle, Vermont.

Born on February 19, 1936 in New York City, Ron lived a life defined by adventure, dedication, and a strong commitment to his family and community. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he honorably served as a gunner’s mate aboard the USS Gainard. After his military service, Ron embarked on a distinguished 20-year career with the New York City Police Department, from 1960 to 1980.

Following his time as a police officer, Ron and his beloved wife, Fini, moved to Vermont, where they became innkeepers at the Tulip Tree Inn. Their warmth and hospitality built a tight-knit community around them. Ron's professional journey continued as a private investigator and later as a security contractor for the U.S. Government, ensuring the safety of American embassies in Venezuela and Finland.

Even in what most would consider retirement, Ron found purpose in staying active. He embraced a position as a driver for CiDER, a role that kept him connected with his community and brought him joy in serving others.

Ron is survived by his loving daughter, Kristin Schutz of Fairfax, his treasured granddaughter, Lily Schutz Matero, and his brother, James Schutz. He is also remembered fondly by Anthony Matero, the father of his granddaughter, and his lifelong friend, Walter Mergelsberg. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Fini (Kas) Schutz, and his brother, William "Billy" Schutz, who preceded him in death.

Known for his charisma and humor, Ron was often the life of the party, forming deep connections with everyone he met. His legacy is one of laughter, friendship, and a life lived with purpose. The memories he leaves behind will remain a source of comfort and joy for those who knew him.

In accordance with Ron's wishes, all services will be private and by invitation. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to CiDER PO Box 13, South Hero, VT 05486
