Burlington, VT--Ronald Raymond Palmer, 77, of Milton, passed away November 2, 2021 at University of Vermont Medical Center. Ronald was born on September 20, 1944 in Queens, NY, the son of John Michael Palmer and Anne (Seelig) Palmer. He married Diane Caputo on October 16, 1966 at Saint Martha's Church in Uniondale, New York. Ron and Diane moved to Clinton Corners, New York and lived there for 22 years before moving to Vermont with IBM. Ronald was an engineer at IBM for over 30 years before retiring. He was the lead circuit designer on Gallium Arsenide advanced technology development and helped develop a broad library of digital design elements for use with this advanced technology. After many years with IBM in New York, Ron completed his career at the IBM facility in Essex Junction, Vermont. Ron was an outdoor man and one of many talents. He loved cutting and burning wood in the fireplace and wood stove. He even had a wood stove business for a while in New York. He was always willing to help a friend, whether it was doing the electrical and plumbing in a new house or changing engines in cars. His garage became a place where many friends would gather and work together in New York and Vermont. He had the patience and tools to teach anyone who was willing to learn. He taught his children and grandchildren many skills. Since retiring, his biggest hobby has been woodworking. He made beautiful tables and chairs. He loved a challenge, and nothing was too hard for him. He was a long time member of Evangelical Free Church in Clinton Corners, NY and Church of the Rock in St. Albans, Vermont. He was known as a faithful and welcoming door greeter, and everyone loved seeing him there. He is survived by his wife, Diane Palmer; his son, John Palmer and his daughter, Kimberly Fankhauser; his grandchildren, Garrett, Quinn, and Eden Palmer, and Elias and Anya Fankhauser. He is also survived by his uncle Tom Palmer and his wife Ann of New Jersey. He is predeceased by his father, John Palmer; mother, Anne Palmer; daughter, Christine Palmer and his sister, Valerie Towsley. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, the 8th of November, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Minor Funeral Home in Milton, Vermont. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, the 9th of November, 2021, 10:00 AM at Church of the Rock in St. Albans, Vermont. Burial to follow at Milton Village Cemetery.
