In Loving Memory of Ronald James Bevins (August 17, 1947 – December 30, 2024)
Ronald James Bevins, lovingly known as "Ronnie," was a legend in every sense of the word. Born on August 17, 1947, in Cambridge, VT, to the late Irene (Bushey) Bevins and Ira Bevins, Ron grew up in Fairfax before settling in Milton, where he lived for nearly 50 years.
Ron’s legacy is one of kindness, hard work, and unwavering dedication. Known for his warm smile, sharp sense of humor, and ability to brighten any room, Ron was a pillar of his community. He greeted everyone with open arms, a quick wit, and a generosity that knew no bounds.
A tireless worker, Ron poured his heart into everything he did. He spent 20 years as an equipment operator at Flanders before founding Ron Bevins Excavating in 1982. Operating heavy machinery was his passion and first love. His unmatched work ethic was legendary—often logging over 100 hours a week and working nearly two years straight without a day off. Later, he passed the reins to his son Bryan, transforming the business into Bevins & Son Excavating, a source of great pride. Despite his deteriorating health recently, he still went to the “shop” daily.
Ron was a regular at the Milton Diner and Zachary’s, where he enjoyed coffee, lively conversations, and plenty of laughs with friends and “the girls.” He had a knack for making lifelong friendships, whether around the poker table in his shop or through his everyday interactions. Not much ever phased him, and his easygoing nature was a source of comfort and joy to those who knew him.
Ron’s family was a great source of pride for him.
He is survived by his children: Ann Bevins Guilmette of South Hero (grandchildren Colby and Damian Guilmette, Autumn Wright), Stacey Bevins and significant other Chad Lambert of Essex Junction (grandchildren Baylin and Jonah Fisher, Addison Blanchard Lambert), Bryan Bevins and significant other Tiffany Creamer of Colchester (grandchildren Macayla, Parker, Reed Bevins, and Cayden and Stella Creamer).
His stepchildren also survive him: Jennifer Karlin Clark and husband Robert Clark of Swanton (grandchildren Bethany Duggan, Katie DiDominic, Nicholas Clark, and Joseph Clark), Matthew Karlin and wife Mara Poulos Karlin of Stowe (grandchildren Andrew, Julia, and Isaac Karlin, and Malia Turiello), Kim Karlin Cluff and husband Paul Cluff of Spring, TX (grandchildren Ammon, Selby, Devon, Dylan, Brandon, Maura, Trent, and Garrett Cluff).
Ron was a great-grandfather to five and is also survived by his siblings Judy Cheney (Bill), David Bevins (Marlene), and Beverly Gingras (Meddie). He was predeceased by siblings Larry Bevins, Bruce Bevins, and Polly Mechia .
A heartfelt thanks goes to Cindy Bevins for her unwavering support during Ron’s final months.
Ron’s life was defined by his love for family, friends, work, and the community he so deeply cherished. In his final days, he was surrounded by so much love it was almost contagious—a sure sign of how much he meant to everyone around him. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impression, and the memories of his big heart and character will bring joy to all who knew him.
Ron, may you have a winning poker hand, a pack of cigarettes, a soda, pull tabs, and your ever-present smile. And may every Sunday bring you a joy ride in an old car. Rest easy, Ronnie—you will be forever missed and loved. We are all privileged to have been part of your journey. "Oh, go on," we can almost hear you say with that grin we’ll never forget.
A celebration of his life will be held on January 4, 2025 (3 PM-8 PM), at the Eagles Club in Milton, VT, for the incredible man who touched so many hearts.
