Robert B. Chalmers, 94, died peacefully on November 19, 2024. Bob was born on January 24, 1930, the son of Andrew and Oneida Chalmers. He attended Burlington High School where he was an avid football player and graduated with the class of 1949.

Bob joined the United States Navy in 1951. He was assigned to the Navy Crash Crew at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas. Bob later proudly served aboard the USS Philippine Sea as a Plane Captain during the Korean conflict with Fighter Squadron Fifty-One as part of the Far Eastern cruise. Bob was honorably discharged in 1955.

A year later, he married Geraldine J. Chalmers on February 10, 1956, in Burlington and they welcomed their first daughter Kim on November 11, 1956, followed by twins Lisa and Lori 11 months after that.

Bob’s work portfolio began while he was still in high school and continued throughout his life, full-time for New England Telephone, State of Vermont, IBM and he drove part-time for Yellow Cab and CIDER.

He and his wife Geri retired together in 1996 and traveled extensively across the country. Bob enjoyed romping and throwing tennis balls and or sticks with his dogs, the calming company of cats, skiing, camping, boating, meticulously tended lawn care, family get-togethers and traveling cross-country in the RV. Bob also adored gardening with his granddaughter Michelle by his side when she was little and spending time with his great granddaughter Cassidy.

Robert is survived by daughters Kim Hunter of Essex Junction, Lori Chalmers of North Hero and Lisa Chalmers of Milton, his granddaughter Michelle Hunter and his great granddaughter Cassidy Ferres, both of Richmond.

He is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Oneida, his wife Geraldine, and brothers Andrew, Stewart and James.

For those who wish, memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to C.I.D.E.R, P.O Box 13, South Hero VT, 05486.
