Richard was born on November 8, 1926, in Winooski, VT, the son of Louis and Margaret [Mongeon] Guilmette.
He married the love of his life, Rose Pidgeon, on April 3rd, 1948.
Richard was a Machinist at General Electric for over 34 years. He was also a proud Navy Veteran during World War II, which he enlisted at the age of 17.
Richard's destroyer was an escortor of the USS Missouri, to Tokyo Bay, for the signing of the treaty for the ending of World War II. After the signing of the treaty, his ship left to pick up a few more WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) which were in the Pacific.
He is survived by his children: Brenda Estus, Suzanne Sauve, Stephen Guilmette, and his 4 grandchildren, Gary Estus, Corey and wife Melissa Estus, Eric and wife Lynn Sauve, Jesse and wife Tammy Sauve as well as his 5 great-grandchildren, Justin and wife Lexi, Olivia, Noa, Patrick, Isaac.
He is predeceased by his wife Rose Guilmette who predeceased him in 2017; his parents, Louis (Margaret) Guilmette; His son, Richard Guilmette II, his grandson, Jason Estus, and Richard's brothers, Paul, Edmund, and Donald Guilmette and Richard's sisters, Lorraine, Pauline, and Joyce.
A committal service will be held on August 14th, 2023, at 11:00am at the Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.
