Philip Guare

Philip Arthur Guare, 77, died unexpectedly August 3, 2024 at the University of Vermont Medical Center after a period of ill health.

He was born April 7, 1947 in Montpelier Vermont, the oldest child of John Richard and Helen (Schefisch) Guare. He attended Montpelier Grade Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1966.

After graduation, Phil worked as an electrical contractor for several companies and was a professional fireman for Montpelier Fire Department. He later moved to Burlington to work at the airport rebuilding airplane motors and generators for Air North and Air New England. He later retired from Aviatron, where he worked to repair aviation components and commercial starters and generators.

From his earliest years and throughout his life he was interested in horses and became an expert horseman and rider.

Phil never missed a year in the 64 years of deer camp with his family on Lake Groton. He enjoyed ice fishing in most every lake in Northern Vermont.

After Phil retired, he continued his interests in and caring for horses.

Phil is survived by his daughter, Tonya and her husband, Michael Brouillette of Belvidere, Vermont and four siblings, Thomas R. Guare and his wife, Eleanor of Greensboro; Margaret M. Bouffard and her husband, James of Westford, John R. Guare and his wife, Anne Goodrow of Providence, R.I. and Paul S. Guare and his wife, Lynn of East Montpelier. Phil is also survived by three aunts, Claire Guare of Montpelier, Vermont; Ruth Carter of Rockport, Massachusetts, and Ann Puleo of Wakefield, Massachusetts; nieces and nephews and several cousins. Phil was married to Susan Houle on December 14, 2004 and she predeceased him on February 2, 2024.

Visitation will begin at 12:30PM with the celebration of life will be held Wednesday, September 18th at 2:30PM at Minor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 237 Route 7, Milton, Vermont. A reception will follow the service at the Brick Meeting House, Route 128, Westford, Vermont.
