Burlington--Paul J McCarthy "Mac", 82, passed away May 14, 2022 at University of Vermont Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Mac was born on December 14, 1939 in Burlington and was a son of Laura (Boucher) and Ulder McCarthy. Mr. McCarthy was a veteran of the United States Navy He was a security guard for many years at IBM. A devout Catholic, he attended different churches, based on the time of year, in the winter he was attending Our Lady of the Lakes and in the summers St. Marks Church and St Ann Church. He was a Florida resident in the winters and a Vermont resident in the summers. When the weather was good, he would be riding his bike, pedaling for many miles. He was also an avid racquetballer, golfer and softballer. When he was not actively playing he was still active as an official for many sporting events. While these things were his passions, he was a self described simple man. He was also a member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge # 916, Burlington. He is survived by: his children, Michelle Hoffman of South Carolina, Michael McCarthy and his wife Starr of Milton, and Jodi McCarthy and her husband Scott Smith of Burlington; his grandchildren, Nathan Hoffman, Michael LaBombard, Ashley Labombard and Kyle Smith; his great-granddaughter Cassidy LaBombard; his siblings Richard McCarthy and his wife Carole of Connecticut, Pauline Brault of Florida, Douglas McCarthy and his wife Pat of New Hampshire and David McCarthy of Florida. He was the uncle of several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many cousins He will be missed by Noah the dog, his 4 legged friend and many special friends Including the Cypress Point Community. He is predeceased by his parents Ulder and Laura McCarthy, his siblings Shirley Gingras, Frank McCarthy and Raymond McCarthy. On behalf of Mac's family we would like to thank you, the doctors and nurses, on Baird 4, UVM Medical Center. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday May 22, 2022 in the Minor Funeral Home 4pm-6pm. His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 beginning at 11 am in St. Ann Church, Milton, with the burial to follow in New Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington.
