Grand Isle--Michael Robert Hemingway, 64, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 26 at home. Michael was born on February 9, 1958 in Burlington, a son of Bernadette (Raymond) and Robert Dean Hemingway. He was the former husband of Joyce Hemingway with whom they shared 28 years of marriage and had four loving sons. Mr. Hemingway was a graduate of Milton High School Class of 1976. Michael was a jack of all trades. He did everything from general carpentry to operating heavy equipment while building roads in Connecticut. Mike loved his sports and was a huge fan of NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the New York Yankees. In his spare time Mike enjoyed playing poker and playing Horseshoes with his friends and family but Mikes passion was snowmobiling. Fresh powder, an Artic Cat and an open field was his happy place. Mike loved his grandkids and his world revolved around them. Taking them for walks, snowmobiling, or visiting the horses at aunt Annie's he just loved being with them. While he never met his youngest grandchild, Adeline, Mike beamed with pride at her photos. Mike was a giver... One phone call and mike was there for anyone, always willing to lend a hand. When he did come to help, he brought along sarcasm and good-natured bantering. He is survived by: his close friend and his rock Cindy Nemeth, his children, Retired Sgt Robby Allen Hemingway and his partner Vanessa of Texas, Michael Hemingway and his wife Jennifer of Milton, SSGT Cody Hemingway and his wife Jess of New Jersey, and Cory Hemingway and his partner Emily of Colchester; his seven grandchildren, Antonio, Chelsea, Milena, Mckenna, Timothy, Elliott and Adeline; his siblings Kathy Wheel and her husband Mark, Laurie Rousseau and her husband Pete, Annie Hemingway and her partner Pat all of South Hero, Patti Soucy and her husband Bill of Connecticut, John Hemingway and his fiancé Charlene of Grand Isle. He had many special nieces and nephews, as well as his special friends Ben Lawrence and Michael Santor. He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Bernadette Hemingway and his special uncle Earle Hemingway. A Memorial Service will be held in New Life Christian Church, at 34 Centre Drive Milton VT, on Sunday, May 1 at 2pm.
