Mafalda Tolley (80), born Mafalda Assunta Maria Ledermann on October 22,1941 in Zürich, Switzerland died July 9, 2022 at the UVM Med Center of COVID and other complications. She was known by her friends as Mafi Tolley. Mafi lived a very rich and active life and mastered five languages as a child. After graduation from the Schaffhausen Switzerland Gymnasium she moved to Italy and Hong Kong and worked in the French Embassies. Upon her return to Switzerland she became a Swissair Flight Attendant and traveled the world. In Beirut Lebanon she met her husband to be Jim Tolley, a missionary. Mafi took a job as a Flight Attendant and Purser with Pan American Airlines, moved to the USA, and has been married to Jim for 57 years. Later relocating to Vermont, they were blessed with three children: James Daniel Tolley (Rutland VT), Thomas Nathan Tolley (Scituate MA), and Nicole Andrea Tolley (Portland OR), who married Jeff Rooney. Together they have two children Logan and Keely Rooney. Mafi was very active in the community, retiring as the English Second Language Tutor in the Colchester School System. Mafi was a very frequent swimmer at the Edge in Essex, where she had many friends. She was also a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. There will be a memorial service for her at the Burlington Ward of her church at 73 Essex Way in Essex, Vermont on Saturday July 16th at 1pm. There will no viewing, but her remains will be interred at a later date to be announced at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Vermont.
