On August 8, 2024, Janet Stankevich peacefully passed after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by friends, family, and her beloved caregivers. Just prior to her passing, friends, neighbors, caregivers, and family had the honor to sing her happy birthday. Born on August 8, 1928, Janet touched the lives of many as evidenced by her large friend group. She left an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A woman of many passions, Janet loved her very active GE wives sewing group. For many years, she volunteered at Replay’s and believed very strongly in their mission. One of her favorite activities was water aerobics with her very close ‘exercise group’. They would often adjourn to Klingers for coffee, treats, and great conversation. She was known to smile easily and laugh often which brought joy and comfort to everyone around her.
She was a graduate of Springfield College’s nurse training program; an accomplishment that gave her great joy and pride. It is a profession she practiced for many years providing care and support for those in need. Her faith was a huge support for her, being a long-time member of St. John Vianney Parish where she attended many social events as well.
Janet is now reunited with her beloved husband, Charlie, and is joined in eternal peace by her father, Wilfred, mother, Irene, and brother, Jim. Her unwavering love for her family was evident in her bond with her son, Ron, beloved grandson, Connor, nieces Carol, Jennifer, Nancy, Mary, and Karen; nephews Paul, Peter, Roger and Karl. She and her primary caregiver, Marc Lewis, had a very special connection that was heartwarming to behold.
Janet will be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion to her family, friends, neighbors, and the community. Her legacy and kindness were evidenced by the countless many who provided support over the past 9 months.
A mass of Christian burial will be held, 10am, Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. John Vianney Parish. A reception will follow in the parish hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate her wonderful life.
