James M. Coulter, a cherished resident of Milton, VT, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the McClure Miller Respite House. Born on February 9, 1938, in Titusville, PA, he was the beloved son of Louis Coulter and Marie (Yashinski/Coulter) Lyons. James was the youngest in his family and was predeceased by his elder siblings: Louis Coulter of Titusville, PA, Shirley (Jack) Saunders of California, and Ellen (George) Bond of California.
On August 2, 1958, James married the love of his life, Lorna (Quesnel) Coulter, at the Holy Family Church in Essex Junction, VT. As a devoted military couple, they traveled extensively along the East Coast of the United States. Their marriage spanned 64 wonderful years until Lorna's passing in July 2023.
James and Lorna were blessed with three children: James (Julee) Coulter of Dover, FL; Rebecca (Todd) Bushey of Georgia, VT; and Cynthia (Jose) Fernandez of Tampa, FL. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
James proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958 until his retirement in 1978, with assignments in locations such as Goose Bay Labrador, Korea, and Thailand. Following his military career, he worked at Hyster, Charliebois, IBM, and ultimately settled into a fulfilling role at the US Postal Service in North East, PA, retiring in 2001.
Known for his quick wit and infectious smile, James had a knack for making people laugh and feel at ease. He lived by the motto, "Smile. Nothing is that bad, just smile and you'll feel better." Whether singing a funny song or breaking into a spontaneous dance, James brought joy to those around him.
A daily enthusiast of scratch tickets, James was known as the "Tootsie Roll Grandpa," always carrying and sharing his favorite treat. His hobbies included bowling, fishing, and softball.
James M. Coulter will be fondly remembered for his warmth, humor, and the happiness he spread to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
