Fairfax, VT-Gregory Lucien Wilcox, 50, passed into the loving hands of the Father at home on May 6, 2021. Gregory was born on September 4, 1970 in Burlington, VT, the Son of Alvin "Mick" Wilcox and Helen Jean (Brosseau). In his younger years, he loved getting into mischief with his brothers around the family farm - often to the detriment of his sisters. He also loved telling these tales to his two sons later in life. Despite the mischief, Greg was a very hard worker. After high school at Missisquoi Valley Union, Greg went to Vermont Technical College. From there, he proceeded to Montana University in Boseman, Montana. He occasionally recounted that when he completed calculus he thought he had conquered the world. Once he graduated, Greg became a Civil Engineer for the State of Vermont Agency of Transportation. Eventually, he also became a licensed Professional Engineer. Greg took great pride in his work and always enjoyed seeing projects come to completion. Most recently, he was very proud to be assigned as the resident engineer on the North Hero - Grand Isle drawbridge project - the largest of its kind in Vermont history. He married Deanna Desranleau on May 21, 2005 at St. Ann’s Church of Milton. Together the pair have two wonderful sons, Zebediah and Oliver. They shared their faith with them, bringing them to Mass and religious education classes. Greg loved spending quality time with his family. It was not uncommon for the living room rug to turn into a wrestling mat, enticing pure joy and giggles from his boys. He enjoyed showing his sons around job sites, telling them about each piece of construction equipment. On their outings, he frequently brought them for treats while fulfilling his love of coffee. It was common to see him out in the yard, throwing pitches, playing catch or shooting hoops with the boys. He also loved watching movies with Deanna and the boys in the movie theatre that he built in the basement. He even constructed a custom swing set and playhouse for the kids, as well as a basketball court at their first home in Milton. Greg and Deanna loved planning projects together. In 2018, they purchased land in Fairfax, and started to build a new home. Greg designed the blueprints and set out on construction. It was a complete work of love - every element was put in place with his family in mind. His engineering eye, attention to detail, and enjoyment of finish work is evident in every aspect. Greg was an active member of the Barcomb Basketball League in Essex for almost 15 years. Playing basketball was one of his favorite pastimes. He was also an avid sports fan - quick to emphasize his Dale Earnhardt Junior and Red Sox fandom, while razzing Jeff Gordon and Yankees fans. Greg greatly enjoyed working on his brother, Dave’s, racing team. It was actually through racing that Greg and Deanna were first introduced. Corey, Deanna’s brother, had met Greg while also working on Dave’s race team, and arranged for the two to meet. The rest, as they say, is history. It’s difficult to sum up Greg by what he did without talking about who he truly was. Greg was a tremendous son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, co-worker, husband, and father. He was a family man, a jokester, an engineer, a hard-worker, a parishioner, and a giver; he was rarely concerned about himself. He was loving, compassionate, strong, humble, gentle, patient, dedicated and kind. He was a beautiful child of God. He inspired many in his journey with illness, teaching us countless lessons about life and faith through his trust in God, grace, and love. Greg readily turned to prayer throughout his health struggles. He truly loved all of his family and all of you who supported the family or offered prayers. He didn’t love you just because of your actions; he loved you because of who you are, and he loved you because of your hearts. That is what he would want all of you to hear. He would want to say I love you and thank you because that’s just who he was. His family would like to thank Dr. Thomas, Dr. Anker, and the other staff at the UVM Cancer Center; Dr. Bi of Brigham and Women’s Hospital; and Christina Taubert, NP, Dr. Beroukhim, and the rest of the staff at Dana Farber for their compassionate care of Greg throughout his illness. They also have so much gratitude to Angel Flight Northeast and all of the volunteer pilots who helped with their transportation to Boston for Greg’s care numerous times. They were an incredible blessing to the family.
