Obituary of Gladys G. Lane
South Burlington/South Hero
Gladys G. Lane passed away peacefully on November 22, 2016 at the Vermont Respite House surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 28, 1928 in Westford, VT the daughter of Remi and Adeline (Pratt) Gratton.
Gladys married Fred Lane on June 28, 1952 in St. Francis Xavier church in Winooski. In 1958 Gladys moved with her husband and two daughters, Donna, and Debbie to her home, Crescent Bay Farm, in South Hero where her son, David was born. Gladys volunteered for many organizations including 4-H where she taught countless young ladies to sew. She also volunteered in the South Hero Community Library for several years. Gladys was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish and volunteered baking pies and baked beans for church suppers and remembrances. She worked side by side with Fred on the farm, enjoyed her sheep, garden and being by Lake Champlain. Her favorite hobbies were knitting and sewing as she made sweaters and clothes for all her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Fred Lane of South Burlington, her daughter Donna and her husband John Fitzgerald of Milton, her son David and his wife Julie Lane of South Hero; her son-in-law William Baron of Grand Isle; her grandchildren, Robert, Emily, Peter, Kathy, Tim, Nick, Alex, and Lydia: her great grandchildren, Addy, Jack, Ingrid, Henry, Jared, Ethan, Cassidy, Justin and Gerald ;her brothers, Remi Gratton of South Burlington and Arnold and his wife Janice Gratton of Huntington; her sisters Clara Piche of Winooski and Yvonne Gratton of Burlington; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Baron in 2008; her infant granddaughter Elizabeth Fitzgerald; her siblings, Romeo, Loretta, Leona, Francis, Flor Ida, Frederick, Blanche and Anita.
At Gladys' request, there will be no viewing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 26, 2016 at 11am at St Rose of Lima Church in South Hero. Burial will follow in the South Hero Village Cemetery.
