Obituary of Erika Holzner Marshall


Northport, FL / So. Burlington, VT
Erika Holzner Marshall, passed away in Northport Florida on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the age of 87. Originally from Inzell, Germany, Erika was born to Maria and Joseph Holzner on March 26, 1929. She traveled extensively throughout her life during her husband's military career and resided for 33 years in South Burlington, Vermont, after Earl's retirement. They moved to Northport, Florida in 2002.

Erika was predeceased by her beloved husband, Earl Marshall on December 5, 2005; her parents, two sisters Hedi Flapan and Judith Zimmermann of Australia and; seven brothers Ludwig, Herman Gottlieb, Siegfried, Edmund, Alfred and Ottmar of Germany. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses; Edna and Mike MacIver, and Evelyn Burns and Herbert Noyes. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Jennifer Payeur-Kemp, Christopher Payeur, and Tommy Burns, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Erika also leaves many nieces and nephews, two who were very special in her life, Brigette and Peter Cox from New Zealand.

Erika was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who made her family her life's priority. She was very proud when she became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1962. As a lifelong learner, Erika expanded her knowledge of world history, politics, cultures and science beyond most college professors. She was a, superb seamstress and received many years of pleasure from her gardens.

A grave side service will be held on August 19th, 2016 at 1pm at Lake View Cemetery in Burlington, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
