Obituary of Elizabeth C. Woods

Elizabeth C. "Betty" Woods, R.N., 75 died peacefully on April 17, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Robin Woods-Brisson.
Born Elizabeth Grace Cotey on September 27, 1940 in Roxbury, Vermont to Paul Alvio and Gladys Ada (Carrier) Cotey, she attended grade school in Stratford, Connecticut and Calais, Vermont before graduating from Montpelier High School in 1958.
Choosing health care over an interest in being a Russian language translator, Betty graduated from Heaton Hospital School of Nursing in 1961 following additional training at Boston Floating Hospital.
On July 1, 1961, Betty married John Pressey "Jack" Woods in the Old West Church in Calais. Together they had two children, daughter Robin Lee and son, Paul Allen.
In 1961, Betty began a 41-year career as a Registered Nurse. From 1964 to 1992, she served in the Cardiac Care and Intensive Care Units at Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester, where she was also a longtime Night Supervisor. She spent the final decade of her nursing career at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans in the Intensive Care Unit.
In 54 years of marriage, Betty and Jack made homes in Malletts Bay, Milton and St. Albans, VT and Daytona Beach, FL.
Betty was a skilled ceramic artist, photographer, flower gardener, and birder; she and Jack also ran a small farm in Milton. In later years, Betty and Jack enjoyed traveling around the country to historic sites and researching their genealogy.
Betty was predeceased by her son Paul in 1983 and her husband, Jack in 2015.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Woods-Brisson, R.N. and her husband Timothy of Milton; by three grandsons, Ryan John Woods and wife, Karen of West Somerville, MA; Connor Allen Woods Brisson of Essex Jct.; and Kiernan Richards Woods Brisson of Milton all of which were the light of her life; by a brother-in-law, David E. Woods of Colchester, who held a very special place in her heart, as well as many beloved family members, her dear nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind many close and wonderful friends in Vermont, Florida, and on Long Island, all of whom she thought so highly of and treated as her immediate family.

A Celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 11 am - 1 pm in the Minor Funeral Home, Route 7 in Milton.
