Fairfield- David F. LaCross, 71, died at his home in Fairfield, VT on June 12, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. He was born in Burlington on May 3rd, 1953, the son of Rene LaCross and Elaine (Daudelin) LaCross.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1971. He worked for the family business (LaCross Fuels) all through high school and after purchasing the business in 1989, later retiring and selling the business in 2012. His retirement only lasted 4 months he decided to do what he loved the best and that was to cook. He went to work temporarily for his brother-in-law and good friend Rob Mahoney at Aviation Deli, that temporary job became a full-time position and lasted 7 years. He was known by his closest friends for his love of golf and special trips to Bluffs Point. He enjoyed the corn roasts, and bonfires while listening to the guitar and singing with his distinctive deep voice. He loved riding his motorcycle which was a shared passion between himself and his son.
Over the years Dave has been an active participant in his children’s lives,coaching both hockey and baseball, attending many dance recitals as well as numerous family camping trips. He was dedicated to giving back to others and helping whenever he could, including volunteering with the Special Olympics. His goofy sense of humor will be remembered including the knowledge he instilled in his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews about white moths.
Besides his mother Elaine (LaCross) Herrick he leaves behind his wife of 20 years Kathy (Mahoney) LaCross, his son Jason LaCross and his partner Sandy Brown, his daughter Kristie and her husband Landon French, stepchildren Mathew Burt, Amber LaCross and her partner Karl Benz, Cody Burt and his wife Nikki.;12 grandchildren Lexy and her husband Corey, Sam, Connor, Ethan, Hunter, Wyatt, Hayley, Olivia, Peyton, Kinsley a,k,a, Chicken, Caleb, Molly, and Lucas;3 great granddaughters Bryleigh, Ila, and Eliana. He also leaves behind four sisters; Karen and her husband Bob Darrow, Judy and her husband Earl Freeman, Paula LaCross and Dawn LaCross and her partner Joanne Carpenter; two brothers Bruce LaCross and his wife Michelle, Kevin LaCross and his wife Kathy, and many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly as the greatest “Uncle Pete” ever.
He was predeceased by his father Rene LaCross, sister Debra LaCross, nephew Earl Freeman, and his stepfather Eugene Herrick. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for close family and friends.
