Cynthia H. Rock

Cynthia H. Rock, born on March 24, 1965, in Burlington, Vermont, left this world on September 6, 2024, in the tranquil embrace of the McClure Miller Respite House surrounded by her loving family. She was a remarkable woman whose spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those who knew her.

Cindy was a graduate of Burlington High School, class of 1984, where she began to cultivate the creativity and passion that would define her life. Throughout her adult years, she dedicated herself to various roles, including her time at the Crisis Center and Lane Press, where she met her beloved husband, Red Rock. Their journey together took them through life’s adventures, enriched by her careers at Comcast and Global Foundries.

Her loving and caring nature was evident to everyone she encountered. Cindy had an artistic soul that found joy in the breathtaking scenery of Bass Harbor Head, Maine, particularly admiring the iconic Lighthouse. Her love for the outdoors extended to memorable cross-country camping trips, which she fondly referred to as "glamping."

Family was central to Cindy’s life. She embraced her role as a mother with great joy, fostering deep, meaningful connections with her children: Sara Mae Rock and her partner Chad; Lyman Rock and his wife Carri; Amanda Judith Rock and her partner Greg; Erin Jeanette Rock-Ballard and her husband Jason; and Colin Rock. Her pride was palpable as she cherished her grandchildren: Dustin and his partner Delaney, Carter, Baylee, Brody, Sebastian, Max, Gregory, Emerson, Holden, and Scout. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, enriching her life with their laughter and love, and her siblings, Ellen Miller and her husband Tom, Evan Hayford, and Emily Bisson, Stepmother Daniele Hayford, and Lucy Hayford.

Cindy’s life was also beautifully intertwined with her love for animals. She cared deeply for the cats and dogs that shared her household, infusing her home with warmth and companionship. Her hobbies included gardening and shopping, but perhaps one of her greatest joys was the thrill of motorcycling, which added an adventurous spirit to her life. Cindy was also very artistic with her painting and her writing.

 She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Helen and James Hayford, and her parents Jean Dixon and James Hayford. 

 Though she navigated life with ups and downs, her gentle tenacity inspired those around her. Cindy’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and the small moments that create immeasurable joy. She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, whose lives she touched in countless ways, and her memory will live on in every heart she warmed. 

 A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagles Club, 1233 Shelburne Road, South Burlington on September 21, beginning at 12PM.
