Claire C. Berteau

Milton-Claire C. (Machia) Berteau, 88, passed away October 20, 2022, at her home with her daughter Vickie and granddaughter Lisa by her side. Claire was born on April 9, 1934, in Sheldon, VT, the daughter of the late Clarence and Marie (Raymond) Machia. She married the love of her life Edmond Berteau on June 16th, 1962, and they spent almost 60 wonderful years as husband and wife, sadly Edmond predeceased her on December 14, 2021. Claire loved to take long rides and go on many trips with her two sisters Vivian and Betty, the family would call them the three musketeers. She loved to sit for hours and watch the birds and squirrels and admire her flower garden out her windows and listen to country music. Claire is survived by her children, Vickie and husband Jimmy Mayo, and Denise and husband Dana McKenna, all of Milton; her grandchildren, Lisa Quintin, Jason Mayo, Jamie Lemont and partner Jeff , Aimee Sheltra and husband Donnie; great grandchildren, Cassandra Quintin and partner Alex, Emily Quintin, Mason Sheltra, Ella Lemont, Scarlett Lemont; great great grandchildren Tobias Quintin and Selene Quintin Brown; sister, Betty Parah of Swanton; brother, Earl Machia of Sheldon; brother-in-law Lucien Berteau; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her loving husband Edmond Berteau; her parents, Clarence, and Marie Machia; and several brothers and sisters. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, October 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28, at 11:00 AM in the Minor Funeral Home, in Milton. A committal service will follow the funeral at Milton Village Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at UVM Home Health and Hospice specifically nurse Sondra, Chaplin Gary, and Barb. A very special thank you to Claires granddaughter Lisa for putting her life on hold to take such loving care of her grandmother.
