Christopher “Chris” J. Savoy, 58 years old of Middlebury, Vermont sadly passed away at the McClure Miller Respite Home in Colchester, Vermont on March 18th 2023 due to complications resulting from his long term battle with mental illness.
Chris is survived by his father Ron Savoy, step mother Lorraine, brothers, Mike, Dan, sisters Kim and Ginna Aunts Nancy Cota, Jonnie, Donna as well as many and cousins other relations, his online peer group he started during Covid lockdown with help from Zylpha Trask director of the center who helped organized the , and his beloved friend and caregiver Jill Logan. He is predeceased by his grandparents and other beloved family members.
Chris loved technology having got and read the entire manual and self teaching himself to use one of the very first home computers in Vermont. He always wanted the next and newest piece of tech, especially cell phones. He was an avid blogger of nature pictures of whatever he thought was beautiful, including, storms, weather, scenery, animals and people.
Chris was a US Navy Veteran serving on the U.S.S. Texas during the Gulf War. He often talked about the close relationships formed and pride in knowing he was doing his part to serve his country. As with many veterans life after service wasn’t easy. He did for a time work at the Veterans’ Place in Vermont helping it get up and running but life had other plans for him.
It was during this time he meet and formed a deep bond with Jill while they both had hit the lowest point in their lives. During their mutual losses they supported and help each other grow and change to learn new ways of coping. Even with all that there are still some wounds that never really heal and it was a trigger of one of those that lead Chris to slowly give up on himself no matter how much love and support he had. Mental illness is a silent disability that is often overlooked. More needs to be done to give help toe who need it.
There will no funeral but there will be a graveside service to be announced at the VA cemetery in Randolph Vermont.
Service will be held at a future date
