With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alexa (Alex) Gagne, a most beautiful person who gave all they could to others. Their presence was a gift and their memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Alex was born on August 3rd, 2003 in Providence, Rhode Island, and passed on December 28th, 2024, in Burlington, Vermont. Throughout Alex’s life, they brought exuberance and joy, deep thought, and a sweet, gentle soul full of compassion - most especially to those who were less fortunate or who could not speak for themselves.
As a lover of animals, particularly felines, Alex took in several cats and cared for them, showing a deep appreciation for the type of bond that can grow between humans and pets. As a lover of people, Alex found their passion in working with children with special needs. Alex’s playful approach to engaging children was palpable, engaging with their younger counterparts with a refreshing playfulness. This care for others influenced Alex’s studies at the Community College of Vermont, where they took classes in psychology and hoped to learn more about child development and education.
As a dreamer, Alex expressed their deepest thoughts and feelings through their art. Their art was their passion, producing sketches, paintings, and other creations that conveyed the intensity at which they resonated with the world. Alex sought justice for others and equality in care and in love. For that, we will always love them.
Alex is survived by their parents, Kathleen (Heath) and Eric Gagne, who will cherish their memories of Alex and carry on their call to love others unconditionally. Alex’s contribution to their family and the world is this legacy: a call for kindness and compassion regardless of one’s race, gender, or other identity.
A memorial service to honor Alex’s life and legacy will be held on January 4, 2025, at Minor Funeral and Cremation Center in Milton, Vermont. Friends and family are invited to gather at 11:00 AM to celebrate the beautiful moments they shared with Alex and to reflect on the profound impact they had on everyone’s lives.
