Obituary of Alan Desorda

South Hero - Alan Desorda, 68, passed away on January 29, 2017 at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester, VT, with his loving wife by his side. Alan was born on February 2, 1948 to Norman and Helenor (Savard) Desorda. After Helenor's passing when Alan was seven years old, Norman married Jane (Blaisdell) Desorda, and together they raised and loved Alan through his early years into adulthood.

After graduating from Burlington High School, Alan held a variety of jobs, including being employed at a collection agency, surveying, and managing an Aubuchon Hardware before beginning his career in construction. Alan worked for 25 years for Pizzagalli Construction Company, working his way up through the ranks to Construction Superintendent, and at DEW Construction in the same capacity for another 5 years before retiring.

Alan was affectionately referred to by friends and family as Uncle Al, and known for his great sense of humor. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing - either on Lake Champlain for bass or on Lake Ontario for salmon. He also enjoyed woodworking and helping take care of his and Joanie's ever changing menagerie.

Alan is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Jennifer Young (and Gary), step daughter Crystal Collins (and Mike), granddaughters Chanelle Giardino and Julie Duggins, siblings Debby Clemons, Diane (and Mike) LaRock, Peter (and Julie Meyers) Desorda, and Nancy (and John) Frasier. Alan also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Helenor, step mother Jane, and brothers Carl and Larry (and wife Gail) Pich.

Visiting hours will be held at the Minor Funeral Home in Milton on Friday, February 3, 2017, from 4-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McClure Miller VNA Respite House, 3113 Roosevelt Highway, Colchester, VT 05446.
